On T-Noise
T-Noise is an ongoing archive. Originally conceived as the Therapy of Noise, the "T" has since evolved into an open variable representing Therapy, Thoughts, Tensions, Transitions, Transformation, and beyond.
The "Noise" is equally multifaceted. Drawing from my background in electroacoustic music, it is the raw material of creation, a spectrum of sound containing infinite potential. Beyond electroacoustic music, "Noise" represents the small narratives and systemic interferences that quantitative data often flattens.
A Small Narrative
I am George Zhao. I was born in Northeast China in the 1990s, and began learning to play the accordion at a young age. This early practice laid the groundwork for my formal studies at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Electroacoustic Music.
I later relocated to Australia, where I earned a Master’s degree in music therapy. Since this relocation, I have found myself living in translation, navigating not only between languages but also between different worlds, histories, and cultural regimes.
Currently, I am a postgraduate research student and a music therapist. I am interested in the small narratives that emerge in between cultures and disciplines. I use this blog to archive my thoughts and essays as I explore these intersections.
